As a parent I want my children to be able to eat what they love. The times, when I serve them meals which they don’t particularly like, and I watch them eat without enthusiasm, break my heart. I have to strive not to cave in and give them what they crave, but which I believe is not proper nutrition. However, I’m not so stringent, really. Once or twice a week, I give them what they love. But, what I’d really want for them is to get used to eating healthy foods and to learn to make healthy choices. I cannot give in because I’m doing what I’m doing because I love them.

Read the Labels!  I just keep teaching that to my family.  So then what did I do?  I took my two of my grandchildren shopping and purchased their favorite food without reading the label. Before I started to cook a meal of fish sticks, salad, home-made Mac & Cheese; I decided to read the fish stick label. I could not fix them after I read their label. 

Among other unhealthy things in the ingredient list I found TBHQ! That is lighter fluid.  It is used as a preservative.  The FDA allows it to be used sparingly.  We have not served fish sticks for several years.  After reading the label I realized why that item is off our food list.
